Ford F-100 A Go?

There’s nothing like extremely high gas prices to totally shake up an American Automobile Manufacturer and that is exactly what is happening at Ford. After decades of huge trucks, suvs and cars we are now seeing Ford trim the wasteline of it’s lineup, which is where the F100 comes in.  The Ford F100 is rumored to replace the Ford Ranger which is expected to be retired as soon as the F100 goes on sale, if not a year sooner. This move makes sense to me, with the F-Series being so successful, why not make a smaller version of the very successful F-150?

The F100, if it becomes a reality, will be based on the F-150 platform but be roughly 9/10th the size of the F-150 and make use of aluminum and other lightweight materials to save weight. With CAFE standards requiring a 28.6 MPG average for lightweight truck fleets by 2015 the F100 will no doubt be used to help meet these standards, which will be aided by the eventual use of Ford’s new highly touted EcoBoost system.

We will keep you updated on the F100 as the news comes to us.
